Kiddies in parts of Africa are fond of saying things such as – four corners make a goal. Not many soccer referees bother to prove them wrong. If we borrow from this analogy, we can argue and indeed believe that three nominations should make an award. Award winning Zimbabwean dancehall star, Wallas Chirimuko, popularly known as Winky D, has for the third time been nominated for the African Entertainment Awards in the category of the Best Dancehall Artist.
Winky D has been outstanding on the local music front bagging various awards and has on more than one occasion out-shined international musicians during concerts where he performed as a curtain raiser.
In an interview with reporters in Harare, Jonathan Banda, Winky D’s manager watered down the landmark achievement pointing out that it was not the first time the Gafa President has been nominated for awards in Africa.”It’s not the first time for us to be nominated in African awards and we are happy about it – it shows that our works are not going without recognition,” said Banda.
He explained that it is Winky D’s wish to land the prize but reckoned that it is upto the judges to make the final decision.”It is going to be left to the judges to make us winners but we would like to win,” Mr. Banda declared.
In 2011, Winky D was nominated for the African Entertainment Awards (AEA) in the Best Mainstream Act of the Year, Song of the Year and Artist of the Year categories.
