In Ghana, preparations for this year’s National Farmers Day are reported to be in top gear. So far, five companies are said to have donated food items, insecticides and substantial amounts of money to the Ministry of Food and Agriculture in support of the impending celebration.
The companies – Wienco Ghana Limited, RMG Ghana Limited, Yara Ghana, Glofert Limited and Agro Limited – said the donation formed part of their Corporate Social Responsibility as citizens of Ghana.
RMG Ghana Limited presented Eforia Insecticides and a cheque of ten thousand Ghana cedis (Ghc 10,000) while Glofert gave thirty five thousand Ghana cedis (Ghc 35, 000).
Wienco handed over a cheque of ten thousand Ghana cedis (Ghc 10,000), Yara Ghana donated 100 bags of Yara Mila Activa in addition to a cheque of twenty five thousand Ghana Cedis (Ghc 25, 000).
The Deputy Minister for Food and Agriculture, Dr. Sagre Bambangi, who is in charge of Annual Crops, while receiving the donations on behalf of the government and the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, expressed appreciation for the support towards the organisation of this year’s Farmer’s Day, coming up in December.
Dr. Bambangi commended Ghanaian farmers for their role in feeding the nation and for which they deserved to be celebrated, pointing out that the government of President Akufo-Addo attached serious importance to the development of agriculture. He said the government deliberately introduced the agenda to boost the agricultural sector through the Planting for Food and Jobs Program.
