The ties between Nigeria and Sierra Leone are sure to grow stronger, if the ruling All Peoples Congress, APC, retains political power in Freetown. The party’s presidential candidate, Dr. Samura Kamara, has promised to protect and preserve foreign business investments in the country if elected in the poll scheduled for March 7, this year.
Chatting with newsmen in Lagos last Tuesday after meeting with some key government officials, Mr. Kamara assured that he would take it as a matter of policy and bilateral cooperation to continue to protect foreign business interests in his country.
He declared that unlike opposition parties, which felt unconcerned about Sierra Leone’s foreign investment, “It is my desire to continue with the manifesto of the ruling party and administration on foreign investments, which have been of tremendous benefits and growth to our nation.”
Although, Mr. Kamara said the interest of Sierra Leonean businesses would also be protected, since “both foreign and national business interests could be appropriately managed under a well and properly articulated government policy, which has been the practice of the APC,” he stated.
The presidential candidate also made it clear that his focus would be to continue to secure the achievements of the incumbent president, Mr. Ernest Koroma and also scale up on them in the area of infrastructure, human developments, and foreign relations, among others.
Mr. Kamara, who had served as a Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for his country, promised to use the office of the president to ensure solid bilateral cooperation among African Union and other international organisations to the growth and development of the black nations.
He stressed the need for African nations to continue to lay emphasis on strong inter-trade relationship if they must continue to succeed, pointing out that “if elected his administration will no doubt deepen the relationship between Sierra Leone and Nigeria.”
