The News Agency of Nigeria, NAN, is the primary news content provider for Nigeria’s newspapers, electronic media and bloggers.
Established by the Nigerian Government via Decree 19 in 1976, NAN became operational on 2 October 1978, providing General News Service to subscribers in three bulletins published daily.
With the introduction of satellite technology in 1998, the agency began to transmit stories to its clients simultaneously as they were edited and fit to print. This continues today, via the worldwide web and e-mail, with subscribers now able to log-in to NAN portal, newsroom.nan.ng, to pick the news they want.
With substantial reach and mobility across the 36 states of Nigeria, and with 501 editorial staff nationwide and correspondents in New York, London, Paris and Johannesburg, NAN is always where the news is. The agency produces more than 200 stories per day, with additional collaboration with Reuters and Xinhua news agencies.
No other news organisation covers Nigeria more than NAN. And none reports the world better.
At the moment, NAN team of journalists is headed by Malam Yusuf Zango as Editor-In-Chief. He has an array of editors helping to edit and update stories pouring in from correspondents nationwide.
Mr. Bayo Onanuga, a veteran editor and magazine publisher is at the moment the CEO of the agency. He was appointed by President Muhammadu Buhari in May 2016.
The agency’s website www.nan.ng was launched on 8 August 2016, to offer news to the worldwide audience interested in news primarily about Nigeria, Africa’s most populated country.
Designed by Metric Internet, the site has a bouquet of stories on politics, lifestyle, metro, general news, entertainment and sports.
This site finally separates what NAN offers the general public as freebies and what it offers to subscribers, as premium content.
