Burkina Faso Terrorist Attack

Islamic extremists are reported to have attacked the French Embassy and army headquarters in the Burkinabe capital Ouagadougou, killing eight people and wounding more than 80 others, last Friday.
Reports say security forces killed eight of the attackers, but the terrorism already shows that Ouagadougou can always be a target.
The smell of smoke lingered over the city Saturday as the prime minister prepared to meet with the army chief at the heavily guarded army headquarters.
A deep hole in the ground and adjacent wall of the army center marks where extremists dressed in uniform set off a car bomb, apparently targeting a room where senior officers were to have met, but had relocated.
Meanwhile, the group of 84 people accused of masterminding a coup attempt in Burkina Faso in 2015, are being tried by a military tribunal in the capital, Ougadougou.
Former presidential aides, Gen. Gilbert Diendere and Gen. Djibril Bassole, are among those facing a military tribunal as hundreds of security forces were deployed around the court building.
Gen. Diendere briefly took power in the West African nation after the presidential guard staged a coup against the transitional government. He stepped down in the face of street protests backed by the army.
He now faces life in prison for beating up civilians and will also face murder charges including conspiracy against the state.
Gen. Bassole, who was Foreign Affairs Minister under the ousted President, Blaise Compaore, is accused of treason. Many of the accused coupists are former soldiers in the presidential guard.
