Ibrahim Hassan Dankwambo was born on the 4 April 1962 in Gombe, capital of Gombe state. He graduated from Ahmadu Bello University, ABU, in 1985, with a degree in Accounting. He obtained a Master of Science degree in Economics from the University of Lagos in 1992 and a Ph.D. in Accounting from Igbinedion University.
Ibrahim Dankwambo began his working career with the firm, Coopers and Lybrand, in 1985, and worked at the Central Bank of Nigeria from 1988 to 1999. He was then appointed Accountant-General of Gombe State, a position he held until 2005 when he became the Accountant- General of the Federation on 20 April 2005. He held the office until he resigned to start his campaign for election as Governor of Gombe State in January 2011.
In the April 2011 election, Dankwambo won 596,481 votes, ahead of Alhaji Abubakar Aliyu of the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) and Senator Sa’idu Umar Kumo of the All Nigeria People’s Party. He was re-elected in the 2015 polls and was sworn in for a second term on May 29, 2015.
Governor Dankwambo has been rated the Best Governor in northern Nigeria based on “his outstanding achievements in road infrastructure and maintenance since he was sworn-in on the 29th of May, 2011.” In a statement signed by the Secretary, Gombe People’s Congress, GPC, Aliyu Mohammed, Governor Dankwambo’s giant strides in infrastructural development have been described as having drastically reduced the spate of accidents usually recorded on roads in the state due to their bad nature.
According to the GPC, Governor Dankwambo’s milestone achievements in road infrastructure include Gombe township road; Kumi township road; Biliri township road; 6 dual carriageways; over 300 kilometers of asphalted roads and 51kilometers of roads have been provided with street lights in the capital city.
