Welcome to our publication for Friday, March 23, 2018. It is another pot-pourri in our bid to be the one-stop shop for your info needs on Africa. We remain committed to this self-imposed task. In this edition, we have reports on a wide range of areas, issues and events, many of which will definitely excite you. Here is a sample –
Terrorism is fast trying to enshrine itself in the natural order of things. But it is repulsive to humanity because it seeks to change the course of human activity by coercion, indeed by blood and sweat. The latest terrorist act in Dapchi, Yobe state of Nigeria, has continued to stay in the news. The jihadists have released a great majority of the school girls and the federal government is happy. How did it happen? Click on the column, Terrorism. You will like to know who is featuring in our Personality Profile this Friday. We have a great guy, an accomplished administrator. Who is that?
On the Agriculture slot, we have focused on the dilemma in Africa – how to get the youths to go into agriculture, to replace the aging farmers who have been struggling to sustain the sector. Training is the answer. Try to read it.
Some African countries can be described as news shy. If you wonder why we hardly report countries such as Seychelles, Mauritius, Madagascar and Cape Verde, we can plead that they are located outside Continental Africa and hardly make news. But Somalia and Eritrea are within the continent. For once, we have something worthwhile to say about these two nations. Check out this edition.
Kenya has no qualms inviting Cuban medics to help in its health delivery efforts. Whether the Castro family remain in power or not in Havana, President Uhuru Kenyatta knows that Cuban medics are a-political. Browse through our Health slot.
On the economic integration scene, Nigeria found itself in a queer corner this past week. Its Industry Minister, Okechukwu Enelamah, worked hard to produce the framework of the ACFTA agreement. He worked even harder to convince the federal executive council to approve the draft. Then, suddenly, the joker came. President Buhari cancelled his scheduled trip to Rwanda. What happened? Find out in our column, Economy.
By definition, aviation is part of the indices that mark a country’s level of development. A nation that ranks high on this yardstick certainly reaps the economic benefit via tourism. But only a few African nations can boast of passing the criteria. Click on Aviation slot. Try and check out the rest.
