GOVERNOR ABUBAKAR SANI BELLO OF NIGER STATE

Abubakar Sani Bello is the current Governor of Niger State, Nigeria. He was born on 17 December, 1967, as the eldest child of the former military Governor of old Kano state, Col. Sani Bello (Rtd). Abubakar attended St. Louis Primary School, Kano from 1974 – 1979 and later went to Nigerian Military School from 1980 – 1985. He gained admission into the University of Maiduguri and studied there between 1986 and 1991, obtaining a B.Sc. degree in Economics.
Abubakar has worked in several parts of the country. For the mandatory NYSC stint, he was posted to serve in Port Harcourt in the Marketing Department of NICOTES Services as a supervisor.
Prior to becoming governor, Abubakar Sani Bello was involved in various businesses. Shortly after joining politics, he won the APC gubernatorial primaries in Niger state for the 2015 election. Sani Bello later went ahead to win the general election scoring 593,709 votes to defeat his closest rival who had 239,772 votes.
Since becoming governor of Niger state in May 2015, Sani Bello has cultivated the image of a maverick, capable of springing surprises at any moment. For instance, on October 11, 2017, the Governor dissolved the State Executive Council, retaining only the three newly-appointed commissioners in the ministries of tourism and culture; mineral resources and livestock and fishery.
Independent observers credit Bello’s administration for its commitment towards investing in the educational sector of the state. Although Governor Abubakar Sani Bello has not announced that he will seek a second term in office, it is widely believed that the campaign for his re-election in 2019 has already begun.
