The U.S has continued to flaunt its ego as the world’s policeman. The American government insists on nothing less than credible and fair conduct of the governorship poll in Ekiti State slated for July 14, this year, assuring that it will closely monitor events, before, during and after the poll.
The Political/Economic Chief, US Consulate in Lagos, Mr. Osman Tat, stated this in Ado-Ekiti during a courtesy visit to Governor Ayodele Fayose. In a statement, the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, quoted the envoy as saying that the conduct of the poll should set a higher standard in the organization of elections in the country.
Mr. Tat declared, “We are here for the monitoring of events leading to the conduct of the governorship election in the state. We are here to see the Governor, to assess the situation of things and to dialogue with him on preparations for the election. America is interested in the election.
In his remarks, Fayose thanked the American government for taking interest in the Ekiti election and told the envoy that the ruling All Progressives Congress was planning to use federal might to rig the poll.
However, the Governor declared, “Ekiti people will resist rigging. They will resist the federal government or the Independent National Electoral Commission rubbishing their votes. The people’s might is greater and more potent than the federal might”.
