While many Nigerians were bus rooting for the Super Eagles to qualify for the Second round of the World Cup in Russia, Afrobeat star, D’banj, was going through personal grief. He lost his young son through an apparent drowning accident in Lagos.
The popular Nigerian singer, Daniel Oyebanjo, shared the news with fans on his Instagram account on Sunday, stating that he was going through “trying times”. The young child, who had recently turned one, died during an accident at the family’s residence in Ikoyi. D’banj shared a black post on his Instagram account, alongside the caption: “Trying Times. But my God is Always and Forever Faithful.”
Daniel Oyebanjo and his wife, Didi Lineo, had celebrated their only child’s first birthday just a few weeks before his death. The couple staged a Minions-themed party at their home back in May for their son, sharing snaps on their social media accounts.
Oyebanjo had been due to attend Sunday night’s BET Awards in Los Angeles, where his fellow Afrobeat star, Davido, paid tribute to him. As Davido collected the Best International Act award, the musician said: “Before I go on, I want to send condolences to my big brother, the actual artist that paved the way for us to be on this stage, D’Banj.”
Fans of the musician were quick to pay their condolences on social media following the devastating news, with many urging Oyebanjo to feel strong and continue to trust God.
