A Federal High Court, in the Nigerian capital, Abuja, has granted bail to former National Security Adviser, NSA, Colonel Sambo Dasuki, who has been held by the Department of State Service in custody for more than two years now. He has been standing trial for allegedly mismanaging 2.1 billion dollars meant for the purchase of arms to fight the Boko Haram insurgents and for unlawful possession of firearms.
Noting that Dasuki’s prolonged detention violated his rights, Justice Ijeoma Ojukwu granted the ex-NSA bail in the sum of N200m, two sureties each in like sum and ordered that Dasuki’s international passport should remain with the court.
The Judge also ordered that the sureties must be public servants on Grade Level 16 or above, and must deposit evidence of last promotion to the court registrar. The court also insists that the sureties must be owners of landed property in the Federal Capital Territory and must deposit original copies of the land title to the registrar.
