Some members of Nigeria’s ruling All Progressives Congress, APC, have announced that they are breaking away from the mainstream of the party to form a separate faction called Reformed APC party. They made this known on Wednesday at a news briefing in Abuja.
The leader of the new group, Buba Galadima, former Secretary of the Congress for Progressive Change, CPC (which was formed by President Muhammadu Buhari) declared at the briefing that “The National Executive Committee of the Reformed All Progressive Congress, RAPC, is constituted”.
He expatiated, “We are assembled to address you on the state of our party, APC, the state of the nation and above all the constitutional democracy of Nigeria. I am standing here before you as the Chairman of RAPC.
Alhaji Galadima, who hails from Yobe state and is widely believed to be close to President Buhari, continued, “The Nigerian people gave power to the APC based on its promises and potentials. We are sad to inform you that after more than three years of governance, our expectations have been completely dashed”. However, Galadima did not say how the Reformed APC would get registered as a political party to contest the general elections slated for next year or what it would do to tackle the growing insecurity in the country.
Meanwhile, President Buhari hosted three APC Governors – Abdulaziz Yari of Zamfara State, Abubakar Badaru of Jigawa State and Abubakar Bagudu of Kebbi State, behind closed doors on Thursday. They declined to speak to the media after their session with the President.
