Alex Iwobi of Nigeria

It is well known that the Nigerian team flopped woefully at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. But the profile of some members of the Super Eagles squad who were able to show their mettle at the Mundial, has been on the rise. For instance, the salary of Alex Iwobi, the team’s youthful forward, has been doubled by new Arsenal boss, Unai Emery. Furthermore, the 22-year old lad has been assured that he has a future at the Emirates.
A product of the Gunners academy, Iwobi snubbed interest from Lazio and will sign the new five-year contract worth around £70,000-a-week when the squad returns from its pre-season trip to the Far East after their game against Paris Saint-Germain on Saturday (tomorrow).
Talks over a new deal began last December, despite the fact that the Nigerian international signed a five-year deal in October 2016. The new heelmsman at Arsenal, Unai Emery, wants Iwobi to be part of his new regime in North London, which shows how highly he rates the attacking midfielder.
Iwobi made his debut in the defeat to Sheffield Wednesday in League Cup in 2015 and scored his first goal at Everton five months later. He went on to make 24 appearances that season and gladly agreed to serve his country, Nigeria, at international levels.
Last season, Iwobi made 40 appearances in all competitions for Arsenal and scored three goals.
