The Chairman of the Presidential Committee on North-East Initiative, PCNI, Theophilus Danjuma, has tasked the federal government of Nigeria to give more attention to the Agricultural sector of the distraught sub-region to fully revive the economy of the area.
General Danjuma stated this in Jauro Shehu Village through Professor Hauwa Biu, a member of the PCNI who represented him during the distribution of 20 trailer loads of fertilizer to the nine local government areas of Borno South senatorial district. Jauro Shehu is a border village between Gombe and Borno States.
According to Danjuma, before the Boko Haram insurgentcy the people of Borno South had been known as successful farmers, which is why the Senator representing the area, Ali Ndume, insisted that the PCNI should distribute fertilizer to the people free of charge.
He urged the people to redouble their efforts in farming since there is relative peace in the area now. While appealing for more women to be included in the list of beneficiaries, Danjuma also called on the women not to be left behind in farming activities since their legacy had become well known.
In his remarks, Senator Ndume, also a member of the PCNI, said the free distribution of the fertilizer followed his insistence to provide the returning Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) of the area with a source of livelihood to revive their distressed situation.
He said that 20 trailer loads of the fertilizer were approved for his constituency, with ten of the trailers already on ground while the other ten were on their way. Senator Ndume said each local government area is to benefit from at least two trailer loads of the fertilizer in all the 101 wards. He promised more of such interventions from the federal government.
