Commonwealth Secretary-General, Mrs. Patricia Scotland has warned those bent on leading the country into violence during the elections to desist from such.
Leading a high-level delegation to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Geoffrey Onyeama, in Abuja, Mrs. Scotland, said Nigeria had inspired the rest of the world to remain on the path of peace. She expressed confidence in the readiness of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to conduct the election and explained that the Commonwealth delegation was in the country to witness and participate in the celebration of what Nigeria had achieved through the peace commission led by retired General Abdulsalami Abubakar.
The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Onyeama told the visiting delegation that Nigeria appreciated the relationship between it and the Commonwealth, adding that the visiting delegation would help inspire smooth transitioning of political power.
