Godswill Akpabio has been elected as the Senate President of the 10th National Assembly.
Akpabio defeated his closest rival, Senator Abdul’aziz Yari, former governor of Zamfara State in an election at the Red Chamber in Abuja, Nigeria on Tuesday.
The former Governor of Akwa Ibom who served as a Minister for Niger Delta Affairs from 2019 to 2022, represents Akwa Ibom North-West Senatorial zone.
Akpabio garnered 63 votes to succeed Ahmed Lawan, the immediate past Senate President.
