(Diana Ross is a house-hold name in Africa, well, let us say, in the urban settings of the continent. It will not be common to find guys who grew up in cities such as Lagos, Abuja, Enugu, Yaounde, Cotonou, Accra, Abidjan, Dakar, Banjul, Nairobi, Durban or Johannesburg, who have not heard of the American music icon. In a way, what concerns her music life touches the heart of Africa. So we feature her latest show here).
It was a big night for the Ross family! No wonder, the African adage says a woman does not age when it comes to the dance steps that she used to know very well.
Diana Ross took the stage to receive the Lifetime Achievement Award last Sunday night at the American Music Awards, while her daughter, Black-ish star Tracee Ellis Ross, was hosting, so it only made sense that the red carpet would be a whole family affair.
Diana brought a deep roster of kids and grandkids out, including Tracee and Evan Ross and Ashlee Simpson, along with the couple’s 2-year-old daughter, Jagger Snow, and Bronx Mowgli Wentz, Ashlee’s son from her marriage to Fall Out Boy bassist Pete Wentz. Raif-Henok Emmanuel Kendrick, Rhonda Ross Kendrick, Ross Naess, Kimberly Ryan, Callaway Lane and Chudney Ross also took part in the big family picture.
Reports say another star was born that night when Diana Ross turned her American Music Awards performance into a family affair.
The icon accepted the Lifetime Achievement Award surrounded by her family, and she even invited her grandchildren on stage to dance as she sang “Ain’t No Mountain High Enough” during a stellar performance.
It did not take long for audience members at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, and those sitting at home, to notice Ross’ grandson dancing his heart out. That was a classic example of ‘catching them young’.
And if you wonder why News in Africa Online seems captivated by youthful age, see this report –
Priscilla Presley, the 72-year old ace singer’s former wife, left viewers and youths totally stunned during a recent TV appearance in the United Kingdom, looking a fraction of her age as she sat down for an interview on the program, “Lorraine.”
Responses were mixed, as some praised her for her youthful-looking face and others questioned the methods she used in achieving it. For comparison, keep in mind that Elvis Presley’s former wife has always been a beauty.
Five decades later, she truly is still a beauty, regardless of what steps she may have taken to preserve her looks! Rocking deep burgundy hair and a red lip, she visited “Lorraine” to promote “Christmas with Elvis and The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra.”
