BOTSWANAN LADY WINS MISS AFRICA 2017

Miss Africa 2017 ,Gaseangwe Balopi

The amiable young lady who stood in for Botswana, Gaseangwe Balopi, has been crowned Miss Africa 2017 at the just-concluded Miss Africa 2017 beauty pageant in Calabar. The second edition of the event featured 25 contestants who battle for the grand prize of $35,000 and a brand new Ford Edge Sport Utility Vehicle.
Miss Rwanda, Fiona Naringwa, the first runner-up took the sum of $10,000 home while the second runner-up, Miss Luyolo Mngonyama of South Africa, got $5,000.
Twenty-three year old Muthoni, a mass communication student at the University of Rwanda was beaten to the crown by Botswana’s Gaseangwe Balopi in a colourful event that attracted participants from 25 countries across Africa.
Botswana’s Balopi, 21, took home $35,000 (Rwf 29.8 million) cash prize and a brand new Ford Escape SUV. As a winner, she will serve as good will ambassador for Climate Change and Migration.
The event was held at the Calabar International Convention Center (CICC). Miss Africa is an initiative of Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State and is aimed at creating awareness on the effects of Climate Change.
