Mr. Udom Gabriel Emmanuel, born on 11 July 1966, is the Governor of Akwa Ibom State of Nigeria, since 29 May, 2015.
The young Udom attended Secondary Commercial School, Ikot Akpan Ishiet, Onna LGA of Akwa Ibom State before moving to the School of Arts and Science, Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where he obtained Advanced Certificate of Basic Studies (CBS) and the Higher School Certificate (HSC).
Mr. Udom Emmanuel, who served as an audit manager of Price Waterhouse Coopers, is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria. He also served as Chief Financial Officer of Zenith Bank Plc with over seventeen years financial services experience. He rose to the position of Executive Director of Zenith Bank Plc.
He is a Chartered Accountant and holds a bachelor’s degree in Accounting from the University of Lagos, 1988.
In July 2013, Mr. Emmanuel was appointed Secretary to the Government of Akwa Ibom State. In 2015, he was elected Governor of Akwa Ibom State, Nigeria. Running under the platform of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), he won with 999,071 votes to defeat APC’s candidate Umana Okon Umana who scored 89,865 votes of the All Progressive Congress, APC.
At his inception into office in 2015, Governor Udom Emmanuel launched what he called a Five-Point Agenda namely –
Wealth Creation; Economic and Political Inclusion; Poverty Alleviation
Infrastructural Consolidation and Expansion; Job Creation
After two and half years in office, Governor Udom Emmanuel’s administration is credited for the following achievements –
The administration established the first Led factory at Itam; it also established the First Shoprite at Ibom Tropicana; and built an ultra-modern Automobile Assembly Plant at Itu;
Rehabilitated some major federal roads and inaugurated many Youth Empowerment Programs.
