Is it hard to draw a line between entertainment and debauchery? If your answer is positive, you should try and chat up any Zambian official on the matter. Zambia can lecture you on the difference between the two.
That explains why Zambia decided to deport the South African seductive dancer and entertainer, Zodwa Wabantu, last Saturday.
According to local media, the South African entertainer, famous for hitting the stage without panties, will not be performing in Zambia as had been generally anticipated.
The Minister of National Guidance and Religious Affairs, Godfridah Sumaili, said the South African dancer will not be admitted into Zambia after she was denied entry by immigration officials on landing at the Lusaka airport.
Miss Wabantu was expected to make an appearance at the launch of the album “Kabwata Boy Pandemonium,” by Zambian dancehall singer, Karasa, at Hollywood City Club in Lusaka.
Zodwa Wabantu, whose real name is Rebecca Libram, is reported to have landed at the Kenneth Kaunda airport aboard a South African Airways commercial flight before being briefly detained and sent back home.
In a statement, the National Arts Council of Zambia said Miss Wabantu was banned from performing in the country because her performance would “undermine Zambia’s national values.”
The South African singer is known for performing erotic routines in tight fitting dresses with no underwear and her performances have attracted huge crowds back home and across social media platforms, especially Youtube.
Although thousands of Zambian youths in Lusaka do not like the development, the government is firm on its decision. Meanwhile, neither Zodwa nor her manager has reacted formally to the deportation yet.
