Nigeria has moved closer towards qualifying for Russia 2018 while Cameroon has technically become one of the teams to be eliminated in the third qualifying roundin Africa after drawing with Nigeria 1-1 at home last Monday. The other team in the group, Algeria, is also as good as gone.
While the 1-1 draw which the two countries played in Yaounde last Monday put the hopes of Group B leader, Nigeria, on hold, it definitely ended Cameroon’s hope, meaning that the one-time World Cup quarterfinalist’s revival to win the African Cup of Nations in February was short-lived. The draw that sealed Cameroon’s World Cup fate came three days after it was beaten by Nigeria 4 – 0 in Uyo on September 1.
Now, Nigeria will have to wait for the October 7 clash with the Chipolopolo of Zambia in Uyo to pop the Champagne which she iced after the 4-0 crushing of Cameroon.
