The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, has denied directing banks to continue collecting the old N500 and N1,000 notes after the publicized deadline.
The rebutal followed a news report on line that the CBN has given the commercial banks to nod to continously accept the money from depositors.
The rebutal was contained in a statement signed by the CBN’s Director of Corporate Communication, Mr. Osita Nwanisobi.
He said that the apex bank only directed money banks to re-issue the old #200 notes in line with the directive of the Federal Government.
Mr. Nwanisobi urged members of the public to disregard the news and urged media professionals to always confirm such sensitive story before going to press.
The alleged fake news quotes the CBN as saying that individuals could only deposit #500 with their banks.
