Following the directive by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) to retain the old naira notes as legal tender, many commercial banks along Allen avenue and Opebi area of Lagos have been dispensing the old notes through their Automated Teller Machines(ATMs).
Reports that, there are queues at various ATM spots as the machines dispense only old #1,000 notes.
Some of those who withdrew from the machine said that the development would douse the tension created by cash scarcity.
They appealed to other commercial banks to follow suit and accept the old naira notes as deposits.
