The Lagos State Government has unveiled a digital registration of commercial motorcycles popularly called ‘okada’ and tricycles commonly known as ‘keke’, to capture over 80,000 unregistered operators.

The initiative in collaboration with a technology outfit and the Lagos State Parks and Garages, LASPG, is aimed at enhancing security, regulation, and efficiency in areas where okada and keke have been permitted as means of transportation.

During the launch of the digital registration, the Permanent Secretary of the state Ministry of Transportation, Mr. Abdulhafiz Toriola, who was represented by the Director of Operations in the Ministry, Mr. Olasunkanmi Ojowuro, lamented that about 80,000 operators remained unregistered with the licensing authority. of the state.He noted that had posed security and safety issues thereby resulting in loss of funds to the state.

According to the Permanent Secretary, the data collected would be utilised to technoloically y take off the highways those operating without licenses.
