FG proposes reduced importation of drugs

The Federal Government is set to reduce the importation of drugs in the country from 60 to 40 per cent to promote local manufacturing of drugs.

The Special Adviser to the President on Health, Mr Salma Anas-Ibrahim made this known at a workshop organised to strengthen the World Health Organisation(WHO) Nigeria cooperation strategy in Abuja.

According to Mr Anas-Ibrahim, the action was part of President Bola Tinubu’s
agenda to bridge the gap in the country’s health sector.

He said that other priority areas include increase and improved access to healthcare services, national health insurance for at least 40 per cent of Nigeria’s population to ensure that all citizens including the vulnerable group were beneficiaries.
