If you are among those who think that a blind man is doomed for life, then this report will perhaps make you change your mind.
In Nigeria, a musical group, which comprises of visually impaired youths and those living with various forms of disability, has resolved to leave their footprints in the sands of the country’s music industry. The group, which is planning to launch its maiden album soon, has already endeared itself to prominent Nigerians including top Christian clerics who have vowed to support the youths to achieve their goals in life.
The band stole the show at a recent event in Lagos organised by the Lions Club International, District 404A1, Lagos, where the youths thrilled the guests with their energy-powered performance. The band members, donning well-tailored red traditional outfit and black goggles, mounted the stage amidst cheers and applause from the guests.
After what was described as a superb performance, the blind youths were presented with cane guards by the Lions Club district, in appreciation.
In his remarks, the club’s new District Governor, Lion Olatunbosun Okpeseyi, said the organizers’ invitation to the visually impaired musical group was not by accident but part of the Club’s efforts to improve the lives of people living with disability, especially the visually impaired.
In Lion Okpeseyi’s words “The Organisation has a mandate to support visually impaired people and has spent millions of dollars to assist blind Nigerians to regain their sight. The Organisation’s signature project is the fight against preventable blindness. Millions of dollars have been spent in this regard to restore sight to millions of people in Nigeria. In addition to our vision for all campaign and in line with our organisation’s centennial service activities, we have served over 150 million less privileged people around the world since 2016 through Youth, vision , hunger and environment-related activities.
Lion Okpeseyi stated that the club is planning to build “a state of the art Renal Dialysis Centre at the Lagos University Teaching Hospital, which informed the fund-raising program.
